About us
We are a network of criminology and criminal law postgraduate students, early career researchers, academics, and practitioners from across the North East region. Local in character, global in reach our aim is to provide a friendly and supportive network for discussion and the sharing of ideas. We also post information about upcoming events, research, and employment opportunities that are related to criminology and criminal law.
The network was set up and developed by Dr. Kelly J. Stockdale in 2014, with thanks to a small grant from the PhD projects and initiatives fund at Durham University. Kelly is passionate about creating supportive spaces that enable academics and practitioners to share ideas and best practice, to network across our both our organisations and our fields, and to foster collaborations. She is also committed to developing and hosting these opportunities within the North East region and publicising the fantastic work that is taking place here; in both our universities, local criminal justice agencies, as well as by voluntary and charity organisations.
Kelly obtained her BA (Hons) in Criminology and Psychology from the University of Sunderland before studying for an MA in Sociology and Social Research Methods at Newcastle University. She has over 10 years' experience volunteering with and working for different criminal justice agencies in the North East, including Durham Constabulary where she worked for 7 years as an intelligence analyst; researching and analysing a wide variety of crime data and exploring a range of issues particularly in relation to alcohol and drugs, and hate crime. Kelly graduated from her PhD at Durham University in 2016; her thesis explored the implementation of restorative justice across a police force in England. Kelly is currently working as a lecturer in criminology at York St. John University, her academic research falls across four areas, namely: restorative justice, policing, alcohol and drugs, and sex work. You can contact her directly at [email protected].
You can keep up to date with latest news, information and crime-related events happening across the North East via Twitter @crimeresearchNE, or through our Facebook Group 'North East Crime Research'.
